An access control reader is an electronic device which unlocks a door when it senses an authorized card, electronic key fob or fingerprint. It may read the key via Bluetooth®, magnetic sensor, biometric reader or even a keypad. It is often connected to a computer system, allowing access privileges for each user to be updated and monitored. On ArchiExpo, these devices are arranged by properties such as type of sensing system.
Readers are normally used for access to large buildings or to improve security, verify the presence of employees and allow rapid, efficient updates at large organizations. They are found in a wide range of commercial, residential and public settings, including office towers, residential complexes, hotels, hospitals, schools, banks and government facilities.
Consider access parameters including building size, number of doors and secure areas and number of people authorized to enter each zone. Determine ease of updating and monitoring the system, and how easy it is to replace or deactivate keys in the case of malfunction, loss or theft.
