Blown glass is obtained by blowing air into a mass of molten glass via a tube. The technique is traditional if the air is injected orally by a glassblower, and industrial if accomplished with a machine. This process is extremely practical for the creation of spherical or elliptical objects. Blown glass cylinders can be cut in half and unrolled to create flat pieces with an irregular surface.
Such glass is generally used to make modern design lamps, suspended lamps, and chandeliers with rounded, spherical shapes. It is also used in historical renovations to recreate the irregular surfaces typical of traditional craft work.
