All the chairs follow the same idea from Claudio Bellini, based on his understanding of what the precision mechanics of seating demands of design: the ultimate in comfort! The seat shells of the chairs are unalloyed ergonomic perfection - a rousing success for this innovative designer - while the chromium-plated steel tubing is the non-plus-ultra in shape. In the DS-717, seating becomes an act of sensuousness linked with unparalleled comfort. How do you design a modern restaurant that
feels comfortable and unpretentious?
The Bauhaus pupil and later sole employee of
Mies van der Rohe until 1934, Herbert Hirche,
succeeded in this difficult task.
Hirche was Professor at the Academy of Art in
Stuttgart when the 'Hirche Team' designed
the well known restaurant „Santa Lucia“.
The restaurant was originally designed in 1957
and remodelled in 1969, when the Santa Lucia
chair was introduced.
The „Santa Lucia“ chair has nothing of the
romantic Finca style or colonial backgrounds of
the traditional rattan furniture. It is one of
the rare modern architectural designs using
rattan.
The „Santa Lucia“ can be used as dining or
kitchen chair, at home or in cafe´s or restaurants.
What looks like the backrest performs as an
armrest, it is comfortable and stackable. It is a
design of which you will not get tired of and
after more than 30 years it is proven to be time-
less. Afraid of rattan? If one of the strings ever
brakes, any basket weaver can repair the chair.

Developed in Italy, this chair, with its clean lines and minimalist personality, is made entirely from one single piece. An innovative injection-based manufacturing process has resulted in the model’s minimum weight, creating shapes and volume which give us a new way of understanding this material.
The Regata finish offers a texture, which is very similar to leather. This new surface, applied to lively colours, transmits warmth and sobriety. A combination of contrasts which opens the door for this material in outdoor and communal settings. |
