A contemporary lamp post (sometimes called a street light) provides elevated lighting for public and private exterior areas. Its color, finish or form display individuality, sometimes reinterpreting elements of traditional or period designs. On Archi-Expo, these fixtures are categorized by properties such as type of light source or special features (e.g., solar-powered).
These installations can add character to parks and other public spaces. They may have a strong geometric shape or diffuse light in an interesting way to create a particular ambiance and improve security and/or visibility. They also are found in yards, on terraces and in other private areas.
Consider how the style fits into its environment, post height, lamp brightness and installation method. Verify compliance with local regulations. Determine maintenance needs and how well the design resists weathering, misuse, impact and vibrations. Some posts may require the reapplication of protective finishes. Other factors include efficiency of the light source, frequency of bulb replacement and renewable power source options.
