The Online Architecture and Design Exhibition
A design stool is a footrest or seat which usually has no back or armrests. It is considered unusual and innovative in its use of color, construction, form or materials. As a unique piece or as one of many, it can add originality to a space.
This furniture is suitable for use in educational, private, commercial and a variety of other settings. It may have multiple features such as storage or lighting. Models are designed for interior or exterior use, and for high or low tables. Some are modular, stackable or mounted on wheels.
A design stool may be made from unusual materials such as cardboard, tempered safety glass, lacquered steel, blow-molded plastic or even rotational molded plastic.
Consider how the unique style, color and form of the stool will fit its surroundings. Ensure that its height is suitable for the intended use. Models which slide under a table should leave sufficient legroom. Stackable, modular and folding designs offer advantages when many stools must be moved or stored frequently.
For commercial or public environments, a model offering stain and scratch resistance may be particularly important. Outdoor versions should be made of weatherproof materials, perhaps with removable cushions.
