Herbert Hirche's design of this chair refers strongly to the >Bauhausi, where Hirche was a student from 1930 to 1933, his main teacher being Mies van der Rohe. Afterwards Hirche worked in van der Rone's office and later with Egon Eiermann. The »Lounge Chain was designed in 1953 during Hirche's time as proffesor at the Academy of Art in Stuttgart. Unusually enough, the chair never went beyond prototype stage. Only since the year 2000, Richard Lampert produces this classic with a variety of fabrics and cow skins.

Of all many great models… designed by the Castiglioni brothers…, one of the greatest is "Sanluca". Gavina was already making handcrafted versions of it in 1960, both as it needed technologies which were too advanced and because the cost of manual labour was still affordable. In 1987 he brought it out once again, having worked on its design and re-engineered it at lenght, something which could not be done without the help of one of its original name and shape in spite of the fact that it had essentially the same spirit as well as a strong yet soft inviting look to it.

The Sanluca armchair, designed in 1961 by the architects Ashille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, was to be an 'armchair for relaxation". The points of support, the slant of the surfaces, the sizes of the sections, everything has been studied in order to obtain the maximum degree of comfort: in this way the body can relax without sinking, maintaining a coned upright positions. Anything amounting to a (enrol and superfluous extra has been intentionally eliminated, and as far as the aesthetic appearance is concerned, the Sanluca armchair is an object with an essential and modem line.
