A door automation system is the motorized mechanism which automatically opens and closes a door. Components may include an electric motor, light sensors or controllers, which activate opening and closing. On ArchiExpo, these systems are categorized by characteristics such as door type and specific use.
These systems are designed for different types of door, including garage doors (which may rotate vertically, horizontally or slide), commercial or industrial doors, and even regular pivoting doors, often intended for disabled access.
While some automation systems use light sensors to trigger the opening of the door, others have switches. Some feature a manual back-up in case the motorized system fails.
Ensure that the system is compatible with the door and its intended use. The system should comply with applicable regulations, be easy to maintain and offer manual operation in the event of a malfunction. Verify maintenance needs and the frequency of required testing. For example, a faulty light sensor may result in the door closing on a person if their is no failsafe feature.
