Antoni Gaudí (1852/1926) is, without doubt, the most internationally well-known Spanish architect. But is not only his buildings and brilliant architectural solutions that have travelled the globe. His integrated conception of architecture led him to pay attention, not only to structural calculations, but also to all the decorative elements, including furniture, that would form part of the building.
In contrast with what happened in general to almost all the Modernista furniture which ended up going out of fashion, furniture designed by Gaudí is still as modern today as it was when it was first designed. Perhaps this is because it is more reminiscent ofsculpture than mere benches and chairs. The Calvet armchair is outstanding amongst these designs because of its expressive force. It was designed along with four other pieces –a stool, a mirror, a chair and a bench– for the house of the same name in the Carrer Casp in Barcelona. This was the Catalan architect’s first housing project and it was awarded a prize by Barcelona city council forbeing the best building in 1900. Two years later, Gaudí designed the furniture, carved in oak, for the offices on the ground floor of the building. They were first produced by the Casa y Bardés company and they are preserved at the Gaudí Museum in the Park Güell.

On the moment it%u2019s the most successful collection, because beyond including pure reproductions of the Italian Renaissance, it can be personalized even only making small changes on the basis product, that permit to obtain really unique and valuable pieces for refined clients searching for exclusivity.
The richest and more particular finish is named POLICROMO, that is realized on at times old wood, following very ancient restoration techniques, that foresee varnishing each piece with natural earth-based colours, often enriched by precious rigorously hand-made decorations (Policromo con decoro).
This collection contains mirrors, bathroom furniture and other articles made of hand-carved old wood: furnishing pieces which take back to definite periods of the most appreciated Italian art, that has been indisputably acknowledged in the whole world. In order to realize articles that really have a taste of the past, bathroom furniture are made with Beige limestone tops, with Classic or other beautiful travertines, Black Marquina and many other marbles, that perfectly match the article%u2019s style and embellish the product, also thanks to the shapes and proportions, always carefully studied according to the piece they%u2019re being used for.
