The Louis XVI style employed classical Greek motifs. The Consulat style, which followed, drew its inspiration from the understated, classical style known as %u201CEtruscan.%u201D Mirroring the crossed webbing featured in original Etruscan pieces, Consulat uses open work ornamentation in the form of an X. The cherry wood accentuates the subtleties of the ornamentation.
