A false ceiling panel is a thin architectural element which can be made from a wide range of materials. Finishes include smooth, latticed and perforated.
These panels can play a structural, insulating and/or surfacing role. The constituent material confers varying degrees of strength, as well as acoustic, insulating, moisture-resistant or fire-retardant properties. Surface finish may resemble wood, or have printed or other decorations.
Such panels often incorporate a combination of materials. Natural components include solid or engineered wood, cotton and wool. Glass, glass wool, rock wool and other minerals may be used. Synthetics, such as polystyrene and polyurethane, are also employed.
Choice will depend on the functional needs of the project and the physical properties of the panel's constituent materials.
