Guardian Clear Float Glass is manufactured using the latest advances in glass making technology. An extending number of float glass manufacturing facilities are strategically located to meet the needs of the European architectural glass market with quick and reliable service.
During the Float Glass manufacturing process, molten glass, at approximately 1100°C, is poured continuously from a furnace onto a large bath of molten tin. It then floats on the tin, spreading and seeking a controlled level surface. In the controlled production process, the molten glass is allowed to spread to a width of 300 to 360 cm, depending on the glass thickness being produced. The thickness is controlled by the speed at which the slowly solidifying glass ribbon is drawn through the tin bath. After about 120 m of travel through the cooling Lehr, it emerges as a continuous ribbon of glass at merely room temperature. The product is perfectly flat and has virtually parallel surfaces. Automatic cutters are used to trim the edges and to cut across the width of the moving glass ribbon. This creates sizes which can be shipped or handled for further processing

Glasses which have been heat-treated to increase their resistance to mechanical and thermal stresses.
The glass is heated to more than 600 °C and then gradually cooled.
Heat-strengthened glass is mainly used to prevent breakage caused by thermal stresses. It is not considered a safety glass. When broken, this type of glass shatters into large pieces that remain in the frame.

Ordinary float glass is one of the most durable building materials. The durability of float glass under normal conditions of exposure is excellent, but its thermal resistance and mechanical strength properties are limited. Where added resistance to wind load and thermal stress is required, Float Glass might need to be heat treated in order to increase its strength.
The heat-treatment process of ordinary Float Glass consists in heating the glass beyond its softening point (over 600°C) and then cooling it down rapidly. This cooling freezes the outer surfaces in their dilated mode while allowing the inner material to retract as temperature drops, thus creating compression strength on the outer layers and tension in the inner layer. Compression strengths in tempered glass are higher than in heat strengthened glass. At Guardian heat treatment is performed in horizontal furnaces, ensuring good surface properties with tight tolerances. However, the treatment process causes some optical distortion of the glass surface which is often referred to as roller-wave and warp. Such distortion is inherent to the process and can not be considered as a defect, assumed it ranges within the tolerance levels as laid down in the applicable standards.

Thermal Tempering is when glass is re-heated to just below its melting point, then suddenly cooled by directing multiple jets of cold air at a controlled pressure onto its surface.
By this means, the outer surface of the glass is subjected to compression and its interior to traction. The intensity of these two forces depends on the temperature that was reached just before cooling starts, enabling the production of tempered or heat-strengthened glass.

Today´s architecture is unimaginable without glass as building material. Modern spacious buildings, flooded with natural light require specially designed functional glass materials. Laminated safety glass combines in a single sheet of glass, which is indistinguishable from normal glass, all the many different design requirements of a modern window. This Guardian product ensures safety of people and security of buildings against a wide variety of threats.
Depending on the properties required from the glass at least two sheets of glass are permanently bonded together using an extremely tough transparent interlayer of Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB). Each sheet of glass is carefully washed before being assembled together with the PVB in a environmentally controlled clean room. After assembly the glasses are permanently bonded together under heat and pressure in an autoclave.
This assembly method allows many different types and thicknesses of glass and different thicknesses and colours of interlayer to be combined to provide a single glass with very specific properties for a host of different design applications.

iplus E/ ipaphon
Heat retaining and soundproof glass
In consideration of the environment in a wider sense, we must find new ways of cutting down on noise. Noise is a factor that pollutes our environment and can damage our health. ipaphon sound-proofing glass offers a way of effectively combating and solving noise problems.
The sound-proofing effect is achieved by means of an asymmetrical construction, special gas filling, and the use of cast-resin glass or the use of sound-proofing foils. At the same time ipaphon products improve thermal insulation because they are produced with standard iplus neutral E coated basic glass. The ipaphon sound-proofing and insulation glass system thus gives us double insulation; it helps solve the problem of noise and makes an appreciable reduction in heating costs.

Ambience double-glazing consists of two or more lights of glass separated by chambers filled with air or other dehydrated gas.
An aluminium spacer containing a desiccant is used to separate the lights.
The unit stays dry thanks to a double layer of moisture-proof sealing.
The second sealant keeps the two lights firmly in place and ensures the integrity of the system.

RD 50™ radiation shielding glass
Optimal radiation protection
If radiation penetrates the human tissue, there is a risk of damage to tissue and organs. Radiation Shielding Glasses RD 50™ and RD 30 provide optimum protection, as they contain a high percentage of lead oxide, absorbing the rays.
The figure "50" stands for a min. 5,05 g/cm³ density.
The figure "30" stands for a min. 3,13 g/cm³ density.
Which glass is used depends on the lead equivalent, which is determined for each application.

By heating glass to huge temperatures it can be curved to virtually any shape. As with anything there are always limitations and some very tight radiuses can not be achieved, but these limitations reduce year after year as new technology becomes available.
In many ways curved glass emphasises the essential properties of glass as a substance. Glass is a liquid and, by including curved sections in a scheme, it softens the footprint and highlights the fragility of the structure.
The process of heating glass in order to bend it does create some distortion across the surface. However this enhances the effect and adds an idiosyncratic view of the outside world.
|
|
This thermal process makes it possible to curve the glazing which marries its mould support then.
CURVEX increases the possibilities of transparency and vision which are not deteriorated any more by the structures wood or metal imposed by the implementation of plane glazings.
The product thus naturally finds its place in the fitting, the furniture and more particularly the furniture of commercial presentation.

Excellent material, guaranteed value
The XX century stated it clearly: glass is architecture.
DecorFlou® is one step ahead: satin-finished glass is added value in architecture.
Its technical features are well-known. Its innovative edge derives from OmniDecor® research: light transmission, filter, visual lightness, nuances, organic value, consistency in time. The same goes for indoor environments: a cement wall can only be a wall - a satin-finished glass wall is something else.
A DecorFlou® door is something else. It is immediate well-being, a relaxing combination of participation and privacy, solidity and transparency. Walls like screens, floors like islands of light. Shops and settings that do not reject - rather invite in.
