The advantage of a clear glass writing desk over other types is its transparency, which visually enlarges the space. It also blends in well with a number of office environments. However, it may be more difficult to maintain and require that users be more careful. Opaque and translucent glass offer a highly attractive finish which is sometimes scratch resistant and easier to clean.
These desks are found in domestic and commercial office spaces. They may have extra features, such as built in shelves or cupboards, or even a pull-out shelf. As glass is heavy, some have casters to facilitate moving.
While some models are made entirely of glass, perhaps with metal fasteners, many designs consist of a glass work surface mounted on a frame of a different material, such as steel or solid wood.
Desk dimensions should suit the setting; its finish, transparent, translucent or opaque, should complement the decor. Opaque finishes may be easier to keep tidy than transparent glass. Consider maintenance requirements and the need for additional features. Ensure that the glass is robust and shatter-resistant. If the desk will be moved regularly, consider casters. Keep in mind the organizational needs of electronic equipment to be placed on the desk.
