The hot tub is a large tub filled with hot water (25-40° C) and fitted with water massage jets and air jets whose relaxing bubbles produce a sensation of weightlessness. Its shell has an ergonomic shape to comfortably accommodate people in a sitting or lying position. The hot tub also is called a jacuzzi, the name of the inventor of a hydro-massage system.
These units have a variety of uses:
- Relaxation at home, at the gym or elsewhere
- Sports, such as aquagym
- Recovery, as in physical therapy centers
It can be installed indoors as well as out.
Some tubs are permanently installed in the ground, while others are movable, aboveground models.
Choice will depend on the following criteria:
- The number of people to be accommodated at one time
- The desired effects, relaxation, energizing or therapeutic
- Permanent versus movable installation
- Construction material, which can be wood, concrete, stone, synthetic, mosaic or something else
- Well-being and therapeutic effects
- Rather costly to maintain and operate
