ArchiExpo features numerous types of acoustic and thermal insulation panels, including fireproof, hemp, cork, flax, wood fiber, rubber, mineral wool, glass wool, foam, expanded polystyrene, polyurethane and polyethylene.
Such panels constitute a layer forming an integral part of a building's thermal insulation skin.
There are two categories of insulation panels, thermal and acoustic. Acoustic insulation is made of materials which absorb sound waves rather than allowing them to pass through. Configurations include panels, roll material and partitions.
Thermal insulation panels consist of materials which block heat energy. Four types can be found:
- Plant-based insulators include cork, particleboard, wood fiber panels and wood-concrete fiberboard.
- Mineral insulators encompass glass wool, cellular glass, glass foam, expanded clay, expanded pellets, etc.
- Cellular plastic foam insulators can be made of polystyrene, rigid PVC foam, polyurethane and other materials.
- Thin, reflective insulators are sheets between five and 20 millimeters thick, e.g., two protective layers sandwiching closed-cell plastic and reflective film.
