It is not a sofa. Nor is it a sofa group. And it is certainly not a neatly arranged row of armchairs. What it is is a matchless seating environment that calls to mind the great masterpieces of landscape gardening. Or a perfectly fashioned town en miniature. In his inner eye, Hugo de Ruiter envisaged an unending play of possible additions and variations when he put his concept for the DS-165 down on paper. The result is a new design for contemporary society in its ever-growing quest for the structures of security in the midst of the breakneck change of information technology. The adjustable backrests enable new seating positions to be achieved at will. And thanks to the arrangement of rectangular seating elements, the sofa can develop to fit every living area as if it were a growing organism. You can turn through 360 degrees on Hugo de Ruiter's sofa - with the armrests following on smoothly as required. It heralds in a rediscovery of the pleasure of adapting life to one's prevailing mood. The DS-165 represents an optimistic start into the 21st century and is predestined to become a cult object in the future.

ITALIAN ELEGANCE MEETS FUNCTIONAL MASTERY
This latest creation for de Sede by Italian designer Antonella Scarpitta is based on a lounge concept. She has designed a cubic sofa that is strictly reduced to the essentials. This transforms her new model into a timeless object for practical use as well as for decoration. Elegant lines, unparalleled seating comfort and a modular concept that makes for a wealth of potential applications are further attractive features of this outstanding sofa. In addition to its clean-cut form, this design also appeals thanks to its interesting, concealed function: the low rear-sections that are so typical for lounging can be folded upwards if required to provide comfortable back support - for instance, for reading. This unmistakable programme consists of three different sofas, five stools and four supplementary units which make it possible to create a wealth of different combinations - such as corner groups.

|
Ever since she created her DS-7 and DS-5 models, Antonella Scarpitta's name has stood for design that simply will not countenance the commonplace. In form and content, this new sofa follows on from the ideas behind her DS-5 and bears all the hallmarks of a design masterpiece, incorporating the inspiration of seeking aesthetic appeal in elegant simplicity. Its overwhelming attraction springs from a daring interplay of materials that harmoniously melds the steel geometry of its frame with the superlative smoothness of the leather upholstery. With its backrest slightly higher than in the DS-5, Antonella Scarpitta's new creation is the epitome of genuine excellence. Her inimitable design makes everything visible - an entire grammar of unencumbered form and understated elegance. The DS-4 is a clear affirmation by the designer of her commitment to plumb the depths of a particular style. Her skill lies not in continually producing different shapes and forms or flaunting a vast array of materials, but in her fundamental belief that furniture should be endowed with a clear identity. It is this concept that makes the seating Antonella Scarpitta creates so sublimely unique.

Two simple flicks of the wrist transform the DS 450 easily from sofa to double armchair or love-seat for relaxing together. Invitingly casual upholstery ending at the sides in fold-up armrests is decorated on the upper surface with handsewn leather edging that looks like genuine piping. This gives the model a precision of contour that contrasts so tellingly with the irresistible softness of the upholstery. This feature is continued in the design of the individual, adjustable back sections giving these, with their subtly sculpted headrests, the appearance of exquisite buoyant matting.

The DS-1064 can be compared only with the DS-164, since it hails from the same family and from the same creator … Hugo de Ruiter. It is neither sofa nor suite; it is most surely not a row of neatly arranged seating elements. Not in the slightest! It is a living environment that – looked at surrealistically – resembles a little city of seating. Its technology is a stroke of genius that has been elaborated from the DS-164. This means that its backrests can be moved easily to virtually any position desired. Added to this, its expanded modular system of seating elements affords possibilities of constructing a living environment to meet one’s own very individual requirements. This enables owners to create designs that reflect their mood of the moment and to alter them to keep abreast of every change they undergo. This makes for a tiny island of peace and security - not at the end of the world, but at our very feet … so that we can revel in a paradise of seating in our very own living rooms.

Collezione Palazzo
Having architectonic shapes and figures as a reference has always been a dream for furniture designers; after all, wasn’t each and every Biedermeier piece a form of miniature architecture?
With the “PALAZZO” collection, Vivai del Sud acknowledges the neo-classical styles as a tribute to Greek culture and to the awareness and pride of its Roman roots, whilst also borrowing from some of the great Borromini’s architectural styles.
The general consensus has awarded our company and captivated our clientele.

MINIMAL LOOK. MAXIMAL FUNCTION.
The DS 207 model from Antonella Scarpitta is an extremely versatile armchair with a strong personality. It offers elegant geometric lines, ergonomic seating comfort and a high level of functionality for home, office or conference-room applications. This attractively styled model is the ideal complement to the DS 8 lounging programme that de Sede launched last year in collaboration with this intriguing Italian designer. The design that Antonella Scarpitta has created for this new piece is based on contrasts. This is particularly evident in the asymmetrical shape of the armrests, which help give the chair its striking appearance. The armrest has been made wider on one side to create a functional feature that goes beyond the merely aesthetic to form a perfect storage surface. The frame of this lounging armchair is available in a variety of finishes (aluminium lacquer, lustrous pearl or high-gloss chrome plating).

DESIGN: DE SEDE DESIGN-TEAM
Virtually transparent and weightless is the impression given by the gracious DS-10 sofa. Its ethereal form is emphasised by the slimness of its metal legs. Backrests and armrests alike can be adjusted to provide a variety of functions. The maximum in seating comfort is ensured by the rigid firmness of the upholstery and the supple armrests that top the supporting side sections.

As a result in 1958 the designer association SWISS DESIGN came into being, founded by the Swiss gentlemen Hans Eichenberger, Robert and Peter Haussmann, Theo Jakob and Kurt Thut - who, like the Bauhaus artists, were both architects and designers. Their aim: designs in metal furniture suitable for large-scale production. In 1999, de Sede took over manufacture and marketing of the stimulating design created by SWISS DESIGN.

The DS-180 forms a unique counterpoint in seating design: a chromium steel frame flows around the entire sofa. This steel framework, which was conceived in the California of the late 1940s, experiences a rebirth in the DS-180 which transforms this established design concept with a peerless novelty that refuses to ignore the demands of function. The continuous chromium steel frame creates a new style in furniture making that points the way to the profound charms of a higher aesthetic of design. The DS-180 has an unmistakeably retro flavour without its being a mere re-release from the past. Its arresting frame, stunning lines, quality and functionality are already imbuing Contra Punctum with cult status.

How do you like the idea of an armchair that is also a sofa, lounger and bed? The new DS 172 collection from de Sede makes the seemingly impossible reality: armchair-sofa, sofa-bed or bed-lounger - precisely what you require when you require it. The design's multi-functional versatility stems from its ultra-wide swivel armrests, which if required can be swung down to the level of the seat cushions to form part of the reclining surface. Available in 90 cm and 130 cm widths, these seating marvels transmute with blissful ease into sofa or - with rests lowered on both sides - into bed or comfortable lounger.

Built on the basis of two ingenious elements which have been painstakingly constructed with eminent craftsmanship into striking terrace-like forms, the DS-1025 provides a unique seating experience. Like terraced hills, the elements left and right vary in width and depth in tapering steps. Together they constitute a welcoming two-seater, a pyramid or a small range of upholstered hillocks. With the addition of extra elements, it is possible to create seating groups whose diversity is limited only by the owner's imagination.
