A cotton rug offers the advantages of strength, softness and a wide range of colors and weaves. Cotton is a natural, biodegradable fiber, unlike synthetic materials such as acrylic and polypropylene. Cotton is sometimes blended with wool or synthetics to improve rug durability and stain resistance. On ArchiExpo, these items are arranged by properties such as type of rug, style or design.
Such rugs can help define or frame spaces in living or waiting areas. While flat, plain weaves may be easier to clean and better suited to high traffic areas, tufted and pile rugs can add warmth and comfort to a room.
Consider how rug size, thickness, weave, color and pattern will complement the surrounding decor. Bold designs and colors can constitute a focal point, define a meeting area or highlight furniture. The rug may be placed in the center of living room arrangements or waiting areas, or used to mark entrances.
Some rugs can be machine washed. It may require a non-slip backing if placed on a smooth floor. Evaluate its resistance to flattening, dust and fire.
