The sisal carpet is made from a natural fiber derived from the leaves of the agave plant. It was named for the town of Sisal, once an important port on the Gulf Coast of Mexico.
ApplicationsThese carpets can be used in any room of the home and are less expensive than other types. The fibers are easily dyed, yielding a wide range of colors. Their characteristic natural tones blend well with almost any decor, from rustic to modern.
TechnologiesAs a natural fiber, sisal both absorbs and releases humidity. To avoid dimensional distortion, sisal carpets should not be used where spills are likely. Care is usually limited to vacuuming. Stains should be spot-cleaned using a powder or a brush, and salt water with lemon. Over the course of its lifetime, sisal plants absorb more carbon dioxide than they emit.
