How to choose this product
A steam shower stall adds steam-room capability to standard shower features. Usually intended for home use, it may be chosen over a conventional shower for its health benefits, such as relieving aches and pains, and facilitating the evacuation of toxins through sweating. It normally has a seat for comfort and safety, and may have steam shower, shower, hydromassage and other programs.
These units are made from materials such as glass, acrylic and fiberglass.
How to choose
When choosing, consider dimensions and power consumption. While larger models normally require more powerful steam generators, they often are more comfortable. Consider how the steam generator will be connected to the electrical and water supply. Ensure that the enclosure retains the steam to save energy and avoid humidity problems. A water filter and/or a pressure equalizing valve may be required.
Other factors include ease of maintenance and additional features (e.g., hydrotherapy shower). Shape, dimensions and seating should be comfortable and fit well within the bathroom. While round designs may be easier to clean, square units fit well against walls or into corners. Favor robust finishes which are resistant to chemicals, scratching and shock. Short stalls reduce the volume of steam required and save energy. A sloped ceiling helps prevent condensed water dripping uncomfortably on users.
