Eide Industries, Inc. fabricated and installed the 100-foot by 150-foot tension structure, designed by KPFF Architects, on a central mast with 1.75-inch stainless steel cabling to the building.
To meet the local Building Department engineering requirements of 80MPH wind loads and 25lbs per s/f snow loads, Eide used Ferrari 392 as the primary fabric cover, with corner and edge reinforcements of RF sealed Ferrari 1502.
Aligned with the ridge cables, the 3-foot wide “snow belts” of Ferrari 1502 were added giving additional fabric supports for Portland’s occasional snowfall. The “snow belts” were edged with 4-inch 20,000 pound webbing tensioned with load compatible ratchet buckles.
- The 5-pointed structure is supported on a central mast with cabling to the building and measures approximately 100-feet by 150-feet.
- The Building Department required engineering 80MPH wind load and 25-pound per s/f snow load.
- The primary fabric was Ferrari 392 with corner and edge reinforcements of RF sealed, Ferrari 1502.

The Cymer Project is a removable mesh canopy that was designed for Cymer, Inc. in San Diego, CA. The HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) mesh fabric is elastic and light-weight. This was the perfect choice for the client’s requirements.
The intent was to create shade over their amphitheater during outdoor events and meetings, yet have the structure removed and out of site for the rest of the year. By designing a rope and pulley system, Eide Industries was able to create a beautiful and functional shade system that was easy to disassemble with just a ladder.

The material used for the membrane was W.L. Gore’s Tenara 4T20 Architectural Fabric. This elegant fabric has the highest light transmission ratio per strength on the market. Its strength is inherited from the ePTFE scrim and its opaqueness is a function of the Fluoropolymer coating. The City of West Palm Beach wanted nothing but the best.
The fabric patterning was created in house at Eide Industries by using the latest form finding software solutions in our Engineering department. Once the pattern shapes were identified, we defined the perimeters of each pattern by custom tailoring each panel right on the finished frame.

Standard white Ferrari Precontraint 492 mesh fabric served the dual purpose of resonating solar energy and providing shade protection for the combined 39,000 square foot coverage area. A variety of galvanized and PVC sheathed steel cabling, stainless steel, membrane plates and clamp bars provided the tensioned support at engineered pick-up points along the perimeter for each panel.

This canopy was being installed as part of a refurbishment of the area – as the unsightly glazing system above was showing its age. Therefore screening the area with a fabric was the simplest and most cost efficient way to solve this problem.
The use of Natte fabric allowed some light penetration, while taking the detail away from viewing up into the glazing area above.
