The Online Architecture and Design Exhibition
A swivel armchair is mounted on a special base which allows the chair to pivot. It is normally padded and the base is sometimes mounted on wheels. This is particularly useful in office environments, facilitating movement and collaboration among colleagues.
Such chairs can be a playful centerpiece or answer practical needs in conference rooms, living areas and bars. It may recline, have a massage function or be used for leisure activities, such as reading.
The seat is normally supported by a central column whose pivot point may be at the bottom or the top. The column and pivot are often made from durable, corrosion resistant metals such as stainless steel or aluminum.
The chair can constitute an original focal point or blend into its environment. Some models have an unusual shape, requiring extra space around them so as not to look awkward. Consider the need for additional features, such as wheels, an adjustable seat and backrest, particularly useful in an office chair to facilitate work activities and promote correct posture.
