A toilet paper dispenser (also known as a toilet tissue holder) may hold a roll of paper or folded individual sheets. Home versions are usually small and built into or mounted on the wall, or on a stand. Commercial models are found in bathrooms or restrooms in public or commercial settings and are subject to frequent use.
Home dispensers are often coordinated with existing bathroom decor. In commercial environments the security and hygiene of the paper is important. These units often take the form of a locked, wall-mounted housing holding an oversized roll. This helps to prevent contamination and excess consumption. The commercial dispenser may hold more than one roll to reduce refilling. Some include a newspaper holder, trashcan or other features.
These devices are normally made of hygienic materials that can be easily cleaned, such as stainless steel and plastic. Domestic dispensers are sometimes made of wood.
Determine whether the dispenser will hold domestic or commercial sized rolls or sheets. Consider the wall mounting system and verify proper distance from the toilet. Regulations may govern distances and dimensions of dispensers in toilets designed for handicapped use. Other factors include holder sturdiness and locking options, the ease of changing paper and the question of matching existing decor.
