For more than 200 years European needlepoints have been hand-stitched on to canvas using fine woollen yarn. The motifs, some of them very old, which we at casador have brought back to life for our customers, show sometimes opulent, sometimes playful animal and flower motifs. To this day needlepoints can be found in notably elegant private houses and business premises, but increasingly they are also being used as a complement and contrast to the modern interior.
All needlepoints are hand finished by casador to our customers%u2019 specifications regarding motif, colour and size and delivered worldwide. Ask for our CD-ROM with the entire casador range.

Several qualities are available, among other things depending on the kind of threads that are being used in the base of each rug. In case these yarns are made of silk instead of cotton, a more fine rug will arise. Only the strongest silk is imported from China by the knotting factories in India, to produce the highest quality rugs.
We often receive questions about the maintanance of these rugs. This is not any different from maintanance of woolen rugs. Stains are in principle to be removed well, using non-chemicals.

|
As mentioned before, every Persian rug is unique, no equal pieces excist. During our purchasing trips we are always looking for particular Persian rugs, Kilims, camel bags and other knotting art that are part of the daily life in Iran.
Qualities and measurements
The quality of a rug is determined by the quality of the wool that is used. More about this subject you can read in the info page under the link %u2018wool, cotton and silk%u2019.

As with most of the traditional collections, also Ziegler rugs are being offered in many different qualities. Especially the large request for these rugs from the American market makes that many rugs are knotted in a lower quality. However, we will always select and buy those rugs that stand out in quality and originality. This means intensive purchase during our trips to Pakistan and search for the perfect unique pieces. To give you an idea : every 4 to 6 weeks we visit Pakistan to select new Zieglers rugs for our collection.
When buying Ziegler rugs, we pay attention to many things. The base for a good Ziegler rug is the wool that it is made off. The best wol for these rugs is Ghazny wool, a very strong kind of wool from Afghanistan. This wool is being spun by hand, which gives the Ziegler the right appearance. Currently many Zieglers are being offered, made of so called Karachi wool; this is a cheaper wool, but less suitable for Ziegler rugs. The stock of Ghazny wool is limited and because of that, expensive.

Furthermore it is essential for Ziegler rugs that natural pigments are used for dying the wool. These natural pigments give the rug beautiful old and faded colors and subtle color shades. Using synthetic color pigments would give a rug a ‘flat’ look, without the characteristic ‘abrashes’.
Finally it is important that the rugs are being washed in a correct way. Every hand knotted rug is being washed directly after the knotting proces has finished. Washing the right way, makes beautiful colors appear. Not using the right washing proces will again not give the rug the distinctive effect.

size 2.01m x 4.02m
estimated age 70 years
An exceptionally beautiful and decorative old Khotan rug in superb condition, with a few minor edge fixings (old) and no recent repairs. Good pile throughout. Wool pile on cotton warp foundation.
The well-balanced design is a tribute to the Khotan weaver's ability to combine decorative elements from surrounding rug making traditions. The central field has and Afghan-inspired repeating design of octagonal guls, though with coloring that is distinctively Khotanese rather than Afghan. Around the central field are many rows of beautifully balanced and colored borders, using motifs inspired by nearby Caucasian weaving traditions. This carpet is a fine decorative piece as well as a collector's item.

size 2.05m x 4.0m
estimated age 70 years
An exceptionally beautiful and collectable old Khotan rug in excellent condition .Wool pile on cotton warp foundation.
This very large Khotan rug came from the same source as XR130; the weave, wool and condition are similar so we suspect these rugs were used as a pair in a substantial home in the Xinjiang region in the inter-war period. They are both in excellent condition and were probably wall-mounted, or else placed in a little-used reception area.
comments
The pomegranate design is one that the Khotan rug weavers were uniquely associated with, and this rug shows it in its classical form, with pomegranate trees emerging from vases at either end of the rug. Aside from the central field the rug has a compendium of Khotanese border designs and is a virtuoso display in design and layout throughout. It presumably originated in a large and successful workshop in Khotan capable of making such a piece to a specific commission.

We believe these carpets are better than most carpets currently being made in Afghanistan and Pakistan, mainly because of better, non-toxic dyes and yarn quality. Tisca Aubusson rugs are very accurate reproductions of absolutely original french designs produced from the 17th through 19th century in the factories of Aubusson, which gave the name to these rugs. Originally they were produced for the french royal family, but later on, important artists and architects cooperated with this factory and the production could be increased to satisfy the demand of the noble and new bourgeois families. In the past few years Aubusson rugs are again very much appreciated, and they are successfully used in classic and contemporary home.

The remarkable aesthetic beauty of these area rugs, which are all different but share the same flair for refinement, makes them suitable for both classic and modern home interiors.
