Your suggestions for improvement:
In woodworking, veneer is a very thin wooden sheet glued to the surface of elements used to make furniture, doors or other structures. Veneer is about .5 to .6 millimeters thick. This finish technique saves wood and expense. It is also used to create decorative finishes in marquetry and inlay. Combining multiple wood types creates surfaces with different colors and designs.
ApplicationsVeneer is used on tables, nightstands, sideboards, doors and other pieces or structures.
TechnologiesMultiple designs can be derived from the same wood type by altering the way the veneer is cut. One method is to use a very sharp blade to cut a thin sheet of wood from the surface of a log as it turns, akin to peeling paper from a roll. Veneer also can be cut longitudinally from the log.
How to chooseThe wood should be perfectly dry to avoid dimensional instability in the veneer. The peeling method yields larger pieces, suitable for covering extensive areas. However, design is also a factor. Small pieces can be combined to create a particular finish.
