A reclining sofa with perfect functionality - two elements nested in a highly functional whole. One is the seating element, which can be lifted forwards by means of sophisticated technology to reach an ideal seating position. The other element is the refined backrest embedded in the seating surface. When folded back together with the now horizontal seating surface, this forms a couch. Another special feature of the backrest is the way the side “ears“ can be brought slightly forward to achieve even more seating comfort.

This model is a unique piece of furniture, able to give character to a living room on its own, and which would work equally perfectly in a "home-theatre" as in the hall of a period hotel. It is an example of the fine workmanship of Valdichienti's craftsmen. The design is inspired by the rational Bauhaus movement at the beginning of the twentieth century, and the result is a bench-sofa that definitively leaves the bareness of minimalism behind.

Francesco Binfaré’s modular "Sofà" – a hollow frame filled with large soft cushions filled with kapok, the silky plant fibre - now becomes "Gran Khan", a creation reminiscent of the primitive couches that furnished Mongolian tents. If an object’s significance is revealed by its name, then Sofà’s essential, uncluttered form and invitingly soft cushions is the essence of comfort. And as the embodiment of a mental image, it can take on different forms. So an example of bourgeois creature comforts has now become Gran Khan seemingly lifted from tents strewn with skins and carpets inhabited by nomadic peoples in the lands of "the crescent moon".

The "Hommage to Eileen Grey" is a reminiscence of an excellent designer, who worked in the twenties of the last century. Many of her designs are still produced today. Someone, who knows her works, can easily recognise the deduction from it.
Despite this, the Munich designer Danilo Silvestrin has designed with the Hommage a piece of furniture, which is unmistakably a child of his time.
Ordered around the year 1986, when in Germany, lightly belated, the war of the postmodernism was raging, Silvestrin concentrates on a furniture design without any attitude. He sketches with clear lines a pleasantly transparent composition, strict in structure and absolutely new.

Design Story
Molded plywood carries an immediate association with classic Herman Miller designs, and Mark Goetz, principal of TZ Design in New York City, skillfully and creatively incorporates this material in his sofa design. While traditional construction consists of a wooden frame with padding and upholstery applied over it, the Goetz sofa turns tradition inside out, since its plywood shell is clearly visible as both an aesthetic element and a structural frame.
The sofa's practicality extends to one of its most important features--comfort. Goetz conducted his own research and consulted with other experts to arrive at a seat depth that gives ergonomic support as well as room to lie down.
