The design, inspired by toy Lego bricks, consists of a series of "soft building blocks%u201F enabling you to build and create your own sofa design.
"The idea is that you can create your own sofa, have something both original and adaptable to your own living environment. " Says Piero Lissoni.
Piero Lissoni, an Italian architect and designer, describes the concept as something similar to that of the alphabet. "All the elements of the sofa are like letters and you are free to create your own words."
There are 4 modular elements to the sofa; the seat, backrest, armrest and cushions. The elements can be put together in an endless variety of combinations and angles and is available in leather or fabric upholstery.
The overlapping structure in the sofa design creates a building brick effect, an important design feature of the alphabet sofa.
"Things become boring if they are too static and immobile. Beauty lies in imperfection", explains Lissoni.

With in the Caraibi collection, a major role is played by the storage boxes for containing books and things. From the pul-out trolley to the small étagère, to the large-size armrest wich also clearly acts as a partition element.
Depending on taste, requirements and avaible space, the coiche of upholstered unit becomes very easy when the possibility exists, as in the case of Caraibi collection, of having numerous alternatives, including the various armrest proposals and measurements, all interchangeable with quick bayonet coupling.
Like a perfect host, Caraibi stresses its great adaptabilty, in places where another upholstered unit would find it hard to fit in so casually.

A new freedom in designing the living area, combining the seal elements with tops and storage units. The upholstered unit is again at the centre ol the conversation area, which can today be interpreted through increasingly more original configurations.

The supporting frame is in varnished metal section, stopping panels in multilayer and agglomerate wood. The spring system of the seat is composed of elastic belts. The padding is made of C.F.C. - free non-deformable polyurethane in differentiated density and fibre 100% polyester. The feet are in polypropylene, black colour. For the modular version the connection between the various units is realized by means of joint-pins included in the frame. The “Corner unit” and the “End long- chair” have got fixed seat
and only in the “End long-chair” the headrest is manually adjustable. The sofas with one arm can be connected to the “Corner unit”; the “End long-chair” and footstool can not be connected together between themselves. The relax position is obtained by sitting and pushing forwards the seat. Completely removable covers.

Each unit incorporates a series of magnets which enable the modules to join easily and neatly together. The sophisticated geometric design is complemented by the choice of two base options; a steel tubular base, or individual polished aluminium legs.
