Biomac® is a range of biodegradable blankets used for temporary erosion control. These roll erosion control products (RECP) act as a reinforced mulch protecting the seeds and soil from erosion. It also holds the moisture and accelerates germination and vegetation establishment. Biomac® is made of a variety of biodegradable materials like Biomac® S from straw, Biomac® SC from straw and coconut and Biomac® C from coconut fibers only. Each Biomac® type has a different degradation period in relation with its environment; the Biomac® S will be the less durable and the Biomac® C will be more durable.
Biomac gives nature a helping hand at the revegetation stage by:
Ground protection - at the most vulnerable stage, unvegetated surfaces in conjunction with an ECB are protected from water and wind erosion preventing gullying and loss of topsoil. Rain and water run-off is considerably reduced.
Moisture retention - rain water run-off is minimized and soaks through the blanket and allows soaking of the underlying soil: prolonged capillary storage improves seed germination.
Seed protection - newly planted seeds are protected against wind, rain and native wildlife.

Cordrain is an efficient, economical vertical drainage of walls and other subground structures
Cordrain has been specifically designed to reduce hydrostatic pressure behind structures such as retaining walls and bridge abutments. It is also ideal for draining foundations and basements, reducing the likelihood of structural damage caused by foundation movements in expansive soils. The impermeable core provides the added benefit of assisting in the waterproofing of structures which may reduce the functional requirement of a tanking membrane.
Cordrain is supplied in 1.2m x 25m rolls which weigh only 30kg making them well suited for installations on steep building sites where traditional drainage gravels provide logistic problems for the installer resulting in higher installation costs.

MacMat-R
MacMat®R is a three-dimensional geomat that can be applied as an erosion control mat for sloped embankments, channel linings and soil-veneer applications. It was developed to meet the need for an erosion control material which was both strong and environmentally acceptable. MacMat®R is manufactured with a double twist steel wire mesh reinforcement inside the geomat, to provide tensile strength and a stronger form of erosion protection to better ensure the stability of the topsoil on roadway embankments, channels linings and other areas susceptible to erosion damages.
MacMat® R has several advantages:
The continuity of the lining is easily achieved by lacing the edges together with binding wire or metal rings without overlapping and minimising the wastage.
In many standard situations a simple fold into the top of the slope of an anchor trench could be used, being wooden stakes or other anchors sufficient to anchor the wire mesh to the ground. The double twist wire mesh protects the geomat from any potential damage limiting those to a single mesh opening.
The steel reinforcement provides high stiffness to the geocomposite and an uniform adherence to the subsoil providing better protection of the covered surface.
It may be easily fixed to any thicker lining or bottom protection (gabions, mattresses, etc.) providing a better and continuous protection and anchorage where the erosion is usually more critical or the stresses are concentrated.
The combined use of a geocomposite reduces to 50% the installation costs over a double layer system.
Research
To determine MacMat®R performances under various hydraulic conditions, a series of tests have been carried at Utah State University (USA) to evaluate the anti-erosion capability of the geocomposite during varying flow conditions. The allowable shear stresses on the geoomposite have then been evaluated. The diagram to the right reports the results of this research about vegetated (red) and unvegetated mats (green).
MacMat® R is supplied in 2m x 25m rolls

Steep slopes, river banks, ditches, spillways and other exposed areas are often prone to damage caused by erosion due to wind or water.
Terram Erocell can help to prevent erosion by confining soils and aggregates to within the cell structure. Varying degrees of protection can be afforded by selecting alternative in-fill materials. Seeded topsoil provides protection for less exposed areas. Protection may be increased by introducing vegetation such as small shrubs. For greater protection, a granular in-fill can be used in certain circumstances. Appropiate in-fills can also be chosen to give a desired surface appearance. The standard Terram Cellular System for erosion protection, Terram Erocell, is normally suitable for use on slopes with an incline of up to 45 degrees (1:1 slopes).

Preventing soil erosion, carrying out development works and landscaping
with topsoil often involve the use of ridged geosynthetic structures.

Enkagrid PRO and MAX geogrids are reinforcement mats of solid polypropylene or polyester bars or aramid fibers. The aramid fibers of Enkagrid TRC are embedded in nonwoven filter layers.
The polyester or polypropylene bars of Enkagrid PRO and Enkagrid MAX are laser-welded together precisely to form an open, permanent and strong structure for soil reinforcement and soil stabilization. The use of highly oriented polymer bars allows Enkagrid to meet the requirements of the most demanding engineering structures. Compared with polyester or polypropylene multi-filaments, the solid bars with their low specific surface area are much more resistant to aggressive chemical attack and mechanical damage from soils.
The woven aramid fibers of Enkagrid TRC are thermally bonded into a nonwoven.
The geogrid composite combines a number of functions in a single product delivering reinforcement, separation and filtration.
The materials used in the production of Enkagrid geogrids are environmentally friendly, as they do not react chemically with their environment in any way.
When it comes to soil reinforcement and stabilization, Colbond can draw on over 20 years experience. The first flexible geogrid was launched in 1986. The experience gained since then has provided the basis for the development of today's state-of-the-art Enkagrid product family.
All Enkagrid geogrids deliver:
- Reinforcement for all soil structures
- A perfect combination of geometry and polymers to provide the ideal soil-grid
interaction for all soil types
- Outstanding permanent mechanical strength and long-term durability
- Ease of handling and installation
- Wide range of product types to suit the specific needs or your project
- Proven design programs, a design service and technical back-up for a reliable

Enkadrain Premium drainage mats are high performance geocomposites with an outstanding drainage capacity, both on low gradients and under extreme loads.
When used at great depths or in special applications, products from the Enkadrain Premium range show what they can do. Enkadrain Premium has a drainage capacity easily meeting the DIN 4095 standards (Germany, drainage for protecting structures). And, of course, all Enkadrain Premium products also meet requirements as a protective layer to waterproofing membranes according to DIN 18195 (Germany). In addition to its outstanding drainage capacity, the three-dimensional core of looped polyamide monofilaments provides sound insulation properties. Enkadrain Premium products absorb vibration from nearby sources of noise, such as surface and underground railways, reducing noise transmission levels significantly.
Which is the right Enkadrain product for your project depends mainly on construction depth. Drainage mats from the Enkadrain Premium product range are the ideal solution for draining buildings with multiple basement levels. Their technical design and resulting high performance makes them suitable for deep structures which have to be drained: Enkadrain ST and Enkadrain TP in particular are best suited to deep basement applications.
Enkadrain Premium can also be used in cut and cover tunnels, for example, to drain off inflowing water and protect the waterproof sealant. Enkadrain TP was used for vertical drainage on bridge abutments on both the new German Cologne/Rhine-Main and Munich-Ingolstadt high-speed railway lines and uncountable projects of this kind worldwide.
Like all Enkadrain products, Enkadrain Premium's unique looped core structure makes it flexible and easily adapted to even the most complex geometries, for fast, cost-effective installation with a minimum of cutting to shape.
Enkadrain Premium has also proved itself in horizontal drainage for years. Under extensive and intensive green roof areas, Enkadrain 20H and Enkadrain ST can be relied on to drain off excess water safely. Other Enkadrain Premium products are designed to provide drainage underneath parking plaza decks and cobbled pavements.
Where surfaces are to be used by traffic, Enkadrain TP often is the ideal solution to provide pressure-resistant drainage paths.

Enkadrain CK is a multi-functional mat designed for use as both drainage layer and lost shuttering between rock surfaces, bentonite walls, existing structures and new structure walls.
The Enkadrain CK product range comprises a number of different product types whose cavity-rich core is attached to a nonwoven filter on one side and a concrete or shotcrete tight PVC layer preventing cement slurry entering the core. Both, the PVC layer and the nonwoven filter extend 10 cm to one side of the core in opposite direction. This ensures that the joint is covered when lanes of Enkadrain CK are laid adjacent to one another.
Enkadrain CK can be used for drainage at great depths. These products are so flexible they can be adapted to the most complex geometries. Using Enkadrain CK means you can apply concrete direct without any loss of space. In many cases, it serves as lost shuttering, replacing one shuttering.
All Enkadrain CK products are quick and easy to use, and can be attached to the sheeting using construction adhesive or PVC discs nailed to the rock. Enkadrain CK is elastic, which means it can also be used as a flexible separation layer between adjacent buildings, reducing soil-borne noise and vibration considerably and acting as a load separator. This can be particularly useful in railway construction projects.
The products' drainage capacity, flexibility and filter performance are such that when used horizontally, Enkadrain CK acts as a water relief and anti-capillary layer between sub-grade and base slab. In smaller projects where the demands on drainage capacity and the membrane seal are less important, Enkadrain CKL 10L can serve as the ideal alternative to Enkadrain CK.
Tailor-made Enkadrain CK product types are available for special applications such as in tunneling.

GEOSAND allows a particulate material, such as sand, to be contained within a geosynthetic structure thereby providing means for installing a consistent layer thickness over an undulating surface much easier. By ensuring that a known quantity of particulate material, such as sand, is installed per unit area of track-bed this allows a much thinner layer of sand to be applied than conventional methods, thereby reducing material costs. Further, a containment structure of this type also allows the particulate material to be positioned and installed in a much quicker and efficient manner than installation methods associated with the prior art.

Tensar SS geogrids
Tensar SS geogrids are used for the reinforcement of soils and aggregates in construction of structures such as road pavements, working platforms and reinforced foundations.
Tensar SS geogrids are stiff monolithic geogrids with integral junctions. They are orientated in two directions such that the resulting ribs have a high degree of molecular orientation which continues through the area of the integral node. The ribs have a rectangular cross section with square edges.
|
|
MacGrid® WG series of woven geogrids are predominantly used in Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) and Reinforced Soil Slope (RSS) structures of virtually any height, and for stabilizing and reinforcing subgrades. They have a polyester core encased in a tough PVC sheathing. The sheathing and dimensions of the polyester MacGrids® mean that almost any type of backfill can be used, from large granular fill to more cohesive materials.
MacGrid® reinforced soil slopes are generally designed to vegetate, therefore a wedge of topsoil is placed behind the face of the reinforced slope. A bio-degradable blanket is installed preventing the topsoil and fill from spilling out between the apertures in the grid, and accelerates the vegetation of the slope.
MacGrid® WG has also been tested to be used with most of the Segmental Block Manufacturers like block Lock+Load, Keystone, Rockwood, Anchor and Versa-lok.

SIDRA drain (Patent no. PC2005A000015) has been designed with the purpose to install in the ground self-drilling draining steel pipes without the aid of casings that are commonly used to carry out drilling holes in loose grounds, in order to install the common PVC draining pipes.
During the years, SIDRA drain was subject to substantial evolutions and technical improvements until the one currently on the market that is mainly constituted of:
1. High quality steel pipe characterised by the presence of draining holes of about 16 mm in diameter, protected by special “micro-filtering valves”.
2. Metal and/or plastic micro-filtering valves.
3. Protection of micro-filtering valves during the perforation phase, by filling them with a water soluble and biodegradable plastic material.
4. Eventual sacrifical bit with non return valve (if installed with rotary technique).
5. Eventual preventer, in case of drilling below the water table.
SIDRA drains can be supplied in elements of variable length, according to the specific needs of the job site.
The technical evolution of the product brought to consider the SIDRA draining pipe during the drilling phase, as a common drill rod because the “micro-filtering valves”, protected with water soluble plastic material, are effectively locked into the same pipe. This allows the drilling fluids to flow to the sacrificial bit (with pressures up to 15 Bar) without any need for a specific co-axial piping.
