The sound waves radiate in all the directions. Part of their energy is directed towards the listener (direct field) and the remainder will be reflected on the walls of the part. The waves reflected on the obstacles traverse a longer way and arrive at the ears of the late listener compared to the direct field. They are added and cut off with the direct field according to their relative phase.
It results from it a distortion from phase, a loss of reference mark, a confused sound image. RATE intervenes to control the undesirable reflections.
RATE is appropriate for all the applications. Its moderate absorptivity makes it possible to reduce the duration of the reverberation in the critical zones without affecting the environment of the part too much. The relief in tooth of saw brings a light dispersion of the residual reflections to the average frequencies.
