Description

The AMOSDESIGN carried out a restoration of the Tugendhat villa and during this occasion also made replicas of original metal furniture from this villa, in design resembling 1930. The company AMOSDESIGN carried out the reconstruction of the interior of Villa TUGENDHAT and, while engagea in tms activity, aiso produced replicas or the métal turmture originally installée in this villa corresponding to pièces produced in 1930. Villa Tugendhat, which was designed by architect Mies van der Rohe, is one of the key buildings in the history of modem architecture and is listed as a UNESCO monument. One of the iconic pièces it contains was the Brno chair, designed just for this building. Mies van der Rohe designed this simple chair from a flexible tube. The replicas for the reconstruction were produced with the same design. The Brno chair created for the TUGENDHAT project has been produced, in an altered version, up to the présent day. It is now mainly used in offices, even though it was originally a model for use with a dining table and coffee table. The chair was relatively hard by today's standards, with parchment upholstery; a model constructed from a fiat Steel bar and featuring more comfortable upholstery also existed. In 1930, complété furniture collections were not produced as they are these days, i.e. with armchairs, bar stools and other variants. We therefore supplemented the original model with a low light lounge chair which looks perhaps as the original author would hâve designed it.
