Briccole are groups of three poles in the channels of the lagoon of Venice delineating the waterway areas, providing important information to mariners. Made from European oak, have an average length of 10-15 meters and a diameter ranging from 35 to 50 centimeters. Attacked by the action of the sea and the Teredinae shipworm, a mollusk that feeds on wood pilings rendering some pieces of wood as exhausted ensuring compulsory replacement. The wood that it yields, enhanced by the salt and the holes dug by the shipworm, becomes an extraordinary material for the construction of floors and items of furniture. Added to this is the environmental value of the recovery of a wood otherwise destined to be destroyed, to which we give new forms and locations, illuminating this hidden beauty in the depths of Venice.
