LACE ROSE WINDOW VOTIVKIRCHE, VIENNA
Arnaldo Caprai Gruppo Tessile srl
for domestic use
Precious macramè needle jewels that reproduce the rose window: an element set on the facade of the churches, that is the highest expression of the creativity and intelligence of artists.
Under the architectural point of view a rose window is a hole, even if it is filled with wonderful stone lace, which creates a special relationship between the exterior and the interior of the church.
The beautiful rose window, which radiates from the centre with a series of concentric floral corollas, is a wonderful 19th-century example of refined neo-Gothic style. The big church was built in 1856 (actually it was finished in 1879) and has the typical features of North European Gothic style: a fade with a central impressive rose window and an elaborate spire enclosed between two side towers, as high as 99 metres. It is a votive church that Archduchess Sophia and Archduke Maximilian of Austria (respectively mother and brother of Emperor Franz Joseph) wanted after the unsuccessful attempt on the emperors life of 18th February 1853.
