This fountain is in the purest Napoleon III style, decorated with the joyous profusion of motifs associated with the style. The swags of acanthus, Greek border, gadroons, mascaroons, and garlands of flowers make the fountain imposing yet delicate, suitable for home or garden. It would originally have been used to decorate salons and dining rooms during the Second Empire and bottles would have been kept cool in ice in the lead-lined basin.
