Contemporary leather sofa
RH-306 by Robert Haussmann
de Sede AG
Since the middle of the 17th century, the Chesterfield sofa has been an icon of English furniture-making and the epitome of elegant style. In 1963, this classic design inspired Robert Haussmann to develop a new concept based on this underlying element. I liked the fact that you didnt merely sink into its deep seating, but could also sit on the armrests. I aimed to find a simpler and more contemporary form to serve this dual function, explains Haussmann. The RH-306 is hallmarked by striking contrasts: the body perches on delicate legs, while the large cubic expanses of leather are harmoniously framed by rounded corners. The characteristically deep seat cushioning and button-tufted back are an unequivocal salute to the immortal original. But although this sofa continues the tradition of the Chesterfield style, it nevertheless exudes its own individuality and self-assurance with a powerful strand of Bauhaus DNA. This model numbers among the genuine classics of SWISS DESIGN.
