Description

The famous Danish furniture architect Børge Mogensen created some of the most recognized classic furniture pieces during the Danish "Golden Age of design" in the 1950's and 1960's. He studied at the School of Architecture at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he was teached by the renowned professor and architect Kaare Klint. Like his teacher, Børge Mogensen became very focused on creating functional and durable furniture adapted to the human body. Børge Mogensen was inspired by the distinctive Shaker style, characterized by plain lines without any unnecessary ornaments, but with focus on pure craftsmanship and high-quality material. Wood was his favorite material, and he was very fascinated by the natural characteristics of the tree. In 1958, he designed the BM1 and BM2 chairs together with the world-famous SHAKER TABLE for Løgum Kloster (Løgum Monastery), and the inspiration from the Shaker style is quite visible. The BM1 chair is made of solid wood with a seat of hand-woven paper cordel, treated with soap and wax to make it stay resistant. Each part of the chair is handmade, and by exploring the chair, you will discover many unique details. The round chair leg is made of one single piece of wood, and the steam-bended back rest has a shape that follows the natural anatomy of the human spine. The chair is being produced at the carpentry Bernstorffsminde, which is one of the oldest carpentries in Denmark, dated back to 1837.
