Description

Hans J. Wegner showed an early interest in the rocking chair as a design object, and J16 was one of his first chairs ever put into production. The very first version was designed in 1944. After a process to make the chair easier to manufacture, the production could start. Wegner’s J16 has proved so viable that it has been in demand ever since it first came on the market. Rocking chair in solid wood. Woven seat of paper cord. One of the most prolific Danish talents of his time, Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) designed roughly 500 chairs, many of which have become classics that are still in production today. Wegner is part of the “Golden Age’ of modern Danish design, known for his fascination with wood and for infusing functional designs with a poetic, playful edge. For Wegner, a chair isn’t just a piece of furniture, but a work of art made to support the human form.
