The Louis XVI style employed classical Greek motifs. The Consulat style, which followed, drew its inspiration from the understated, classical style known as “Etruscan.” Mirroring the crossed webbing featured in original Etruscan pieces, Consulat uses open work ornamentation in the form of an X. The cherry wood accentuates the subtleties of the ornamentation.
