Inspired by smooth, water-worn pebbles, the sculptural form of the Baba Papa Loungerᵀᴹ has been ergonomically shaped to enable one to recline in a variety of comfortable positions. Designed for a South African lifestyle, the pool lounger’s sculptural form provides ample support, both when sitting upright and reclining or lying down. The Baba Papa’s design tips a hat to the Eames lounger – but instead of fibreglass it takes an innovative approach to materials. The design of the lightweight structure of the Baba Papa lounger was realised by projecting lines onto a hand-sculpted organic form and then copying the resultant contour lines in 60% recycled stainless steel wire. The stainless steel wire loops are then welded together to create an organically contoured diamond meshed surface. Being made from rustproof stainless steel, Baba Papa can be used both in and outdoors. It is available in a polished stainless steel finish or can be powder coated in a variety of colours. A removable felt seat is also available for extra comfort. More a sculptural piece than furniture the Bapa Papa Lounger is a timeless design, with fewer than ten editions made to date.
