Thermalite Large Format blocks are produced with face dimensions of 440 x 430 mm, in a range of thicknesses. This is equivalent to two normal concrete blocks, or twelve bricks. Large Format blocks are specifically designed to compliment the use of Thermalite Thin Layer mortar and offer considerable productivity gains.
Building with Large Format blocks reduces not only the number of blocks that need to be laid, but also the amount of mortar required. This has the benefit of improving thermal performance, by reducing the areas of cold bridging in the wall.
The light weight of Thermalite means that Large Format blocks can be supplied in a weight of less than 20 kg (at equilibrium moisture content). This enables designers and builders to comply with the CDM Regulation, which require that consideration be given to health and safety issues on site when blocks are being handled repetitively. Attention should be given to block weights at higher densities and thicknesses.
