The use of stack bonded terracotta rainscreen systems is now an every day occurrence in the UK, producing precision façades, with no wet trades and retaining the natural beauty of fired clay as a cladding medium.
To supplement this elevational treatment, the "terracotta baguette" has been added to the portfolio of options available to the specifier.
A virtually limitless range of profiles, colours and textures are available in lengths up to 3 metres. Currently the standard 'as fired' finish predominates, but increasingly architects are demanding polished, honed and glazed finished to broaden the pallet of choice.
Whilst we have developed standard off the shelf solutions, the engineering team at James & Taylor, are constantly finding new and exciting ways of expressing the horizontal linearity of this terracotta approach.
Both clients and environmentalists are demanding energy efficient buildings, which mitigate solar gain, and the use of terracotta baguettes as a 'brise soleil' is both an attractive and perfect solution.
