THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO BOOTH SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
The scope of the project comprised the structural steel and glazing of the winter garden of the New Graduate School of Business building. The imposing columns and soaring arches of the winter garden echo the traditional gothic architecture. Each column is made of eight circular hollow sections, 18 m in height. The arches span a width of 15 m and are curved in three different radii and tapered towards the top. The steel structure of each funnel was entirely assembled on the ground and lifted into position in one piece. For the funnel glazing Gartner designed and provided custom-made operable vents driven by eight chain motors. Interior sun shades for the side walls were also provided.
