Varennes is a small town in Eastern France where the reign of Louis XVI ended after unsuccessfully trying to escape from the French Revolution in 1791. With his wife Marie Antoinette, and his family they wanted to join the royalist stronghold in Montmedy , in hope to start a counter-revolution. .
