Description

This deliciously worn bench, designed by Jacques Gabel, appeared in the Cherry Orchad by Anton Tchekhov in a production by Alain Françon in 1998. Its air of romance speaks of time gone by. It evokes the secrets of young lovers, dreaming of sweet, impossible confessions. It has known generation after generation of children living out the heady days of aristocratic families. Although old and tired now it is sad to leave the garden of its childhood. Nostalgia and memory combine its sweetly dilapidated seat that poetically recalls a garden of tender feelings.
