The Telstar design is inspired by the space race fever that gripped the 1960s. The design is in fact a 1990s one and was instantly popular from the day of its launch. Edward Craven Walker the inventor of the lava lamp, was still a consultant at Mathmos at that time and contributed to the design. Telstar legs are made with cast and polished zinc and each one is hand polished. Each product is individually inspected and tested to ensure that a Mathmos telstar lava lamp is the best quality in the world.
Hand Poured in the UK
We fill every telstar bottle by hand with our unique Mathmos formula. This gives our lava lamps the best shape lava formations, the clearest liquids and the longest bottle life. Our long experience, our heritage and the superior quality of our overall product is what separates a Mathmos lava lamp from others. You can of course buy replacement bottles from us for your Telstar to give it a lifetime of use.
