The Metra Sunblades is a screening system which can be applied to new buildings already existing, having a curtain wall with mullions and transoms, with cover in view or structural, with glass only, or to buildings with traditional brickwork façade.
The main purpose of the project is to reach an optimal solution which guarantees a comfortable microclimate inside the building. This can be obtained optimizing the exploitation of the solar energy, in order to reduce to the minimum the energy consumption and satisfying at the same time the requirement of daylight as well as the visual contact with the external environment.
During the design of the system, the most important phenomena concerning the sun exposure (position of the sun, power, type of solar radiation) and the behaviour of the external structure have been studied.
The sunshade blades, installed in a proper way, can hold back about l’80% of the heat coming from solar rays, enabbling to reduce till 30% the consumption of the air-conditioning systems.
