Byzantine Bronze Travertine Tiles A prime example of what quarries call a noce or 'walnut' travertine, in this instance a dark walnut stone, honed by soft brushes to produce an ultra-smooth surface without the light-reflecting glare that so effectively negates large areas of colour in polished stone. The different sizes lend themsleves to creative thinking in the laying down of patterns or insets, to contrast with lighter coloured stone and in combination bring about dramatic effects.
