The University of Wuppertal
The University of Wuppertal again commissioned the modular construction company SÄBU Morsbach GmbH with the construction of a university building in prefabricated steel module construction.
The new building on Campus Freudenberg consists of a centrally located reinforced concrete core, which houses the lift, staircase as well as the technology and sanitary facilities, and at the same time subdivides the building into two separate fire protection areas. Thus, the adjacent building wings, which are mainly used as a seminar and office space, could be reduced in terms of fire safety requirements and thus be implemented more economically, without having to accept a reduced protection for users in purchasing.
The three-storey university building with around 1,800 square meters of floor space was completely designed according to the specifications of the client's architects. Easy-care sandwich panels were specified as the external façade, solar shading for office and seminar rooms was implemented using composite windows with integrated, motor-driven louvres with variable slat orientation. The stairwell, which is also accessible from the rear, is illuminated naturally by a generous, building-high post-and-beam façade.
Safety in the operation of the building is supported by a fire alarm system which has been connected directly to the university's control center for the fastest possible alarm in the event of a fire, together with the installed lift system and the ventilation system.
