Description

Description The vast majority of steel pedestrian bridges are built using shop-fabricated truss systems. The truss bridges are available in a variety of truss types and configurations. These bridges are designed using typical details to prepare a site-specific plan. There are also opportunities to use steel girders made from either wide flange shapes or plate girders. Application Steel designs meet all the requirements of pedestrian and combined recreation applications, including maintenance vehicle loadings. Girder designs accommodate spans from 10 feet to 100 feet. Truss applications range from 20 feet to 250 feet. Hybrid arch/truss or cable stay/suspension designs have been used for spans in excess of 300 feet. Constructability Shop-manufactured truss bridges are delivered complete or in largely prefabricated sections, ready to set in place. Longer bridges can require large cranes, but are set in hours, limiting road closures and various site delays. For more remote projects, the girder-style bridges can be brought to the site broken down to facilitate erection with light equipment.
