With model 1060, Dutch designer Jorre van Ast has created a solid wooden table with a graphic formal language characterised by subtle details. The graceful rectangular tabletop with rounded corners and bevelled edge rests on a frame of two V-shaped pairs of legs that are cleverly connected by a traverse. The legs and traverse are made of solid bentwood and thus refer to the company’s bentwood tradition. Its filigree appearance and the soft, organically flowing lines of the individual wooden elements give the table a lightweight and contemporary look and make it an inviting meeting place in private dining rooms and cosy conferencing environments.
The bent table elements give the 1060 its characteristic appearance. The round leg elegantly splits into three wooden struts: two form a reversed V as the table legs, and the third becomes the traverse that connects the two pairs of legs beneath the tabletop. The traverse not only serves the purpose of stability, but as a visual detail it also contributes to the table’s organic form with its two ends bent at a 90-degree angle. The reduced frame construction also guarantees plenty of leg room. Thanks to its bevelled edge, the solid wood tabletop gets an especially filigree look. The surface develops its haptic effect and feels smooth and soft due to the sophisticated processing of the wood. With its minimalist and at the same time expressive formal language, the table perfectly fits in with the Thonet portfolio and can be ideally combined with numerous chair models. With table 1060, designer Jorre van Ast managed to design a modern piece of furniture that unifies the three themes living, working and Thonet heritage.
