Description

A large number of industrial monuments were destroyed in the great fireworks explosion in Enschede (2002). With the explosion came the destruction of a large part of Enschede’s textile history as well. In order to create a new cultural hub for the town, the council decided to build the new TwentseWelle museum at the site of the disaster. To weave this rich textile history literally into the new centre of culture an idea was born to use a material of metal mesh. The custom-made metal curtain system for this project is incredibly durable against the effects of weather. The metal textile SIERRA PAPA is made from recycled metal wire. The metal curtains can be opened and closed automatically. Design: SeARCH / Bjarne Mastenbroek
