Description

Buckminster Fuller, the great pioneer of innovative architectural and structural visions, dreamed of roofing entire cities to create new and exciting living spaces. Today, Texlon® ETFE cladding systems turn this concept into reality creating breathtaking indoor spaces like the Eden Project. The largest biome could enclose the Tower of London.Architect Sir Nicholas Grimshaw wanted to create an innovative tropical rain forest and Mediterranean biomes in an 80 m deep abonndoned clay pit.The Eden Project is the largest self-supported transparent envelope in the world. The biomes consist of 625 hexagons, 16 pentagons and 190 triangles – with individual panels spanning up to 80sqm in area. The use of Texlon® ETFE cladding meant that the 667 tonnes of steelwork was significantly less than an alternative transparent cladding material. Over 230 panels are intelligently controlled and operable for ventilation. How does the biggest greenhouse work? Watch this new video about Eden Project. This is one of our favourite Texlon® ETFE projects in the world.
