The Royal Burgers’ Zoo in Arnhem, Netherlands, wants to create awareness for mangroves. They created the largest covered mangrove in the world and Vector Foiltec’s Texlon® ETFE covers it – again. Vector Foiltec covered the first mangrove hall, built in 1983*, and the newest is a testament to the positive results. The Royal Burgers’ Zoo went on to create several buildings with Texlon® ETFE, including the famous Rainforest, which changed the way zoos were perceived.Texlon® ETFE roofThe energy efficient mangrove dome, with an area of 3,000 m², creates a new natural environment for various animals and plants. The unique structural frame is on the exterior of the building, which creates a smoother transition to the outside world. The three-layer pneumatic Texlon® ETFE system with 40 transparent foil cushions (spanning up to 29 meter) allows its denizens and visitors living under the sky with natural sunlight. Moveable vents – of course with a net to keep butterflies and birds inside – are also made of Texlon® ETFE cushions.
